Would you like to know my secret Chocolate Cake recipe that is a success every time? It is so easy that even the most inexperienced chef could cook this up in no time!
I have to confess, though, that all credit for this cake goes to one of my lovely aunties! Her house was one of those houses that always had people coming and going, and there was always one or two of these cakes on hand ready to feed unexpected guests. I have made this Chocolate Cake so many times, and never once has it failed! I always make sure that I have the ingredients to make this in my pantry..
So would you like to know the recipe?? Well… Ok, here goes! Please note that I have written the ingredients in a mixture of metric and imperial measurements as this is how I usually do it! There are a number of online conversion sites if you need to convert!

Easy Chocolate Cake Recipe
Ingredients
165g Plain Flour
3 Teaspoons Cocoa Powder
1 Teaspoon Baking Powder
1 Teaspoon Bicarbonate of Soda
140g Sugar
1 Tablespoon Treacle
2 Eggs
1/4 Pint of Milk
1/4 Pint of Vegetable or Sunflower Oil
For the Filling/Icing
The first amount is for filling only, the second is if you want to make enough for filling and covering the cake. You may need to add more icing sugar if you feel that it needs to be thickened up. It will be easier to get a smooth icing if you sieve the icing sugar first!
Now this is my favourite part of this recipe – Preheat your oven to 160 C. Grease a cake tin (8″ square or 10″ round approx).
Put all of the cake ingredients into your food processor and whizz up until you have a smooth mixture (you can do it by hand too – in which case it is easier to mix the dry ingredients first, and then add in the wet ingredients)! Pour into your cake tin, and cook for about 50 mins, or until a knife comes out clean. And that’s it!! How easy is that?!
While your cake is cooling, mix up the filling ingredients.
Cut open your cake, spread some of the icing inside and reassemble the cake. Cover your cake with the chocolate icing if you wish, and if you really want to go mad, shave or grate some chocolate over the top.
There you go – one perfectly easy and yummy Chocolate Cake!
If you decide to give it a go, please let me know how you got on with it! I would love to know….
