Phew, it’s nearing the end of August, and we have had such a busy few months! Although we haven’t been able to travel anywhere abroad, we have had quite a few visitors, and have shared some of the sights of Ireland with them instead! We have also made many new friends, which means that we have got more places to visit in the future!
My dear sister and family were able to visit us from the US! It had been about five years since their last visit, so it was sooo great to see them. They came up to Donegal for a week, and we took them on a tour of our beautiful beaches, we ate fresh seafood in Malin Head, picked and cooked mussels from the beach, went to see the Giant’s Causeway, the rope bridge, and much more! We even had the amazing and unusual occurrence of some warm weather and sunshine!! It was such a wonderful few days.. We are planning a longer trip to Georgia to see them as soon as we can, so we are keeping an eye open for great flight deals with companies like US Airways!
We also had fun with a family visiting Buncrana for to months, my cousin and his wife from Wales, and a big group of Germans from Augsburg! It has meant a lot of trips to the Giant’s Causeway and the rope bridge, but it is always fun! And I even managed to cross the bridge once :-/
Travelling abroad is such a wonderful experience, and hopefully we can visit some more countries in the near future, but travelling at home can be fun too!
Time to post a few more photos from beautiful Donegal! As you can see, over the last couple of months, we have had a whole range of weather from snow and ice, wind and hailstones, to sunshine, lambs and spring flowers!
As always, no matter what the time of year, its just stunningly beautiful up here!
The scenery here in Donegal just continues to take my breath away! Every bend you drive around, there is another amazing view. And each time the light changes, the landscape changes with it.
I am working at uploading some new Galleries of some of the photos we have taken since me came up here, but I just have to share this one with you!
Donal went out this evening on to the beach across the road, and snapped away at the sunset. I think he got some amazing shots! The pictures in the gallery are just low res so they won’t take forever for you to look at, but they will give you some idea of how amazing it was!
I will be posting more pictures as soon as we get “proper” broadband sorted out!!
We have been having one of the coldest winters ever in Ireland. The temperatures have dropped to -17 in some places, and the lowest we have seen here is about -12! Even in Malmo we would have considered that cold!
It makes life a little difficult though – some of the country roads are impossible to drive on, and as you can imagine, it’s not easy for a window cleaner to be able to work when the water just freezes on the windows!
On the upside though, we have seem some spectacular scenery – sunshine, no wind, blue skies.. and best of all, a frozen lake!!! As I was not working today, I had the chance to dig out my rarely used ice skates and take a spin on the lake! I was so excited as it has been more than 10 years since I was last ice skating. I am definitely very rusty, but I managed not to fall over at least! I think I will just have to go out again tomorrow and practice a bit more!
