I have been working on a website for Millie Harbour to promote and advertise her paintings. Have a look here…
For some reason, on some computers, and some browsers, the thumbnails appear squashed.. if its the case when you have a look, would you comment below with info about which browser and version you are using? Thanks
This is a real nifty thing that I came across today!
I really like fonts that look like handwriting – especially if I am adding text to photos, or printing recipes, or making cards etc. On this website, you can generate your own font from your handwriting!
It’s very quick and simple. You download a template with boxes for each letter of the alphabet for you to fill in in whatever style you like (you can see an example of a template filled into the left here). You can either download it as a PDF file, scan it, save it, and upload it on the website - OR you can download the template as a GIF file, open it in Photoshop or similar, and either use the brush tool with your mouse, or a graphics tablet, save it, and upload it again onto the website.
You then get to preview your font to see how it looks. When you are satisfied with your new font, you click on the “Download” button, and your new font is installed and ready to use. It costs $7.50 via PayPal.
I also came a programme that you can buy to generate as many fonts as you want – but then, of course, the cost is higher. But if you just want a one off font of your own handwriting, this is really cool!
I have been expreimenting with my dear Photoshop Elements again!!
I wanted to create some scrapbook-looking recipe cards to either upload and print in a book, or print out myself at home and add to my recipe folder. So here is one I came up with. Quite pleased for a first attempt! You are welcome to download it if you like…
I just added another card for download if you wish. Its for my white chocolate mousse.
I have been experimenting a bit recently with some things that I have discovered on some “Digital Scrapbooking” sites. I enjoy paper scrapbooking occasssionally, but it can get very messy and expensive! So I thought I’d give this a go..
It’s actually amazing what you can do even with “Photoshop Elements” that I got with my camera a few years back. I have gone way over the top, but there were so many cute things I wanted to squeeze in…
Here is another one (my first attempt!) – it isn’t particularly good, but it’s fun anyway!
Thanks to FAS, as I am unemployed at the moment, I will be able to do some online courses for free. One that caught my eye was for Photoshop CS3 – I am excited to learn to use it properly at long last!
I am hoping to sign up to some online courses in the near future to delve into the realms of web design. So far I have just googled whatever I want to try and do to learn as I go along. But as I don’t really understand the basics very well, it is very time consuming!
Today I managed to change the header for my website.
I downloaded a transparent pattern from Patterific.com (too many goodies to choose from – I definitely be returning to this site!), and used Photoshop Elements to make it into a pattern. I tried to work out how big the header in the Elegant Grunge theme was, and created a new file in Photoshop the same size. I then used the pattern stamp (and the new pattern I had created earlier), and filled the whole image. I then made the layer more transparent, and added text (Nicola Keegan) in a font that I have used for my watermark.
What do you think?
It’s very satisfying to learn something new – even if it’s only a small thing! I can’t wait to learn more
